Sunflower - Japanese Silverleaf

Long before the first flowers appear, Helianthus 'Japanese Silverleaf' is already turning heads. This distinctive annual sunflower is grown as much for its extraordinary silver foliage as for its cheerful golden blooms, creating a striking architectural presence in sunny borders, cottage gardens, cutting gardens, and pollinator-friendly plantings. Its luminous leaves catch the light beautifully, giving the plant weeks of ornamental interest before the flowers even begin.

Growing approximately 5 to 7 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, Helianthus 'Japanese Silverleaf' develops strong, upright stems topped with medium-sized golden sunflower flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and later, seed-loving birds. Its shimmering foliage makes an exceptional backdrop for zinnias, cosmos, amaranthus, ornamental grasses, salvias, dahlias, marigolds, and other colorful annual flowers that create a bold, layered summer garden display.

Plant Helianthus'Japanese Silverleaf' in full sun with well-drained soil and regular water while plants establish their impressive height. Like most sunflowers, it thrives in warm weather and rewards gardeners with rapid growth, dependable summer blooms, pollinator appeal, and unforgettable garden presence. Elegant, unusual, and wonderfully eye-catching, this silver-leaved sunflower offers a fresh twist on one of the garden’s most beloved annuals. Explore more sunny favorites in our Sunflower collection.
