Rare, unusual, and wonderfully garden-worthy, Lobelia aguana is a tropical-looking perennial lobelia with a very special backstory and serious collector appeal. This vigorous beauty grows into a lush, leafy plant and produces striking tubular flowers that bring color, height, and hummingbird energy to bright shade and protected garden spaces.
Also known as Aguana Lobelia, this uncommon species is fabulous for woodland edges, large containers, sheltered borders, and lush mixed plantings where its bold foliage and showy blooms can be admired up close. The flowers are excellent for attracting hummingbirds, while the plant’s rarity makes it especially exciting for gardeners who enjoy unusual perennials with personality and presence.
Plant Lobelia aguana in bright shade to part sun with rich, well-drained soil and regular water. Give it protection from harsh inland afternoon sun and room to grow into its generous habit. Distinctive, elegant, and not something everyone has, this is a conversation-worthy lobelia for adventurous gardeners. Explore more trailing and garden-ready favorites in our Lobelia collection.
