Few plants stop us in our tracks quite like this one. Salvia greggii ‘Royal Bumble’ delivers an astonishing scarlet red—rich, saturated, and glowing—with a depth of color that feels almost velvety in the garden. Each perfectly formed ½-inch bloom hovers against dramatic black calyxes, held aloft on inky, upright stems that give the whole plant a striking, couture-quality contrast.
The habit is naturally compact and beautifully bushy, forming a rounded mound to about 30" tall and wide, and in mild climates it blooms with remarkable persistence—flowering again and again as if it simply can’t help itself. Hummingbirds find it irresistible, while bees and butterflies circle constantly, turning this salvia into a living focal point of movement and life.
Exceptionally easy to grow, ‘Royal Bumble’ thrives in well-drained soil, appreciates a spring side-dressing of compost, and benefits from a light annual prune to keep its shape refined. Drought tolerant, deer resistant, and hardy down to about 15–20°F, this is a plant with both presence and resilience—bold, elegant, and utterly unforgettable once you’ve seen it in bloom.
