If there were ever a Pulmonaria with a sense of humor, this Australian charmer would be it! Emerging in early Spring with clusters of warm coral-pink buds that open to glowing shrimp-pink flowers, ‘Shrimps on the Barbie’ lights up the shady garden just when winter’s gray spell begins to lift. The blooms hover above handsome, softly hairy foliage lavishly splashed and freckled with silver, creating months of ornamental appeal long after flowering has finished.
Unlike some of the more delicate-looking Lungworts, this variety forms a sturdy, easy-going clump that steadily expands into a beautiful groundcover. Pollinators adore the nectar-rich blooms, making it an especially valuable early-season resource for awakening bees. Tucked beneath deciduous trees, woven through woodland borders, or planted alongside ferns, Hellebores, Epimediums, and Hostas, it brings a welcome burst of color and texture to shady spaces.
Provide rich, moisture-retentive soil and regular water for best performance, especially during dry periods. Deer tend to leave it alone, and once established, the shimmering foliage remains attractive for much of the growing season. A delightful choice for brightening the woodland garden with unexpected color and plenty of personality.
